History

The Address Glasgow

The Address Glasgow building which was formerly The Glasgow Pearl Assurance Building was designed by architect James Miller, a prominent Scottish architect responsible for many significant buildings in Glasgow and across Scotland. The building, completed in 1927, featured a neoclassical façade with ornate detailing, large windows, and stonework typical of the era.  The  building  is an architectural landmark with a rich history tied to the city’s commercial development in the early 20th century.

The Pearl Assurance Building was designed in the neoclassical style, a popular architectural trend during the period. The building’s exterior features classical elements such as a grand façade with ornate stonework, large windows, and detailed cornices. The design reflects the architectural ambitions of the era, aiming to convey solidity, permanence, and trustworthiness—qualities that were essential for financial institutions like Pearl Assurance.

Today, the building stands as a testament to the city’s rich architectural heritage and the important role that insurance companies like Pearl Assurance played in the financial landscape of the time.

In 2022 The Address Collective acquired the historic Pearl Assurance Building in Glasgow as part of their expansion into Scotland. The building has been transformed into the four star Address Glasgow hotel.

The building underwent extensive renovations to convert it into a modern hotel while preserving its historic and architectural character. The Address Collective focused on maintaining the building’s neoclassical façade and significant interior features, ensuring that the hotel’s design honors the building’s legacy.

The redevelopment project was carefully managed to respect the building’s historical significance. Architectural elements, such as the grand entrance, stonework, and original detailing, were preserved, allowing the building’s history to be a central part of the guest experience.

The repurposing of the Pearl Assurance Company Building into a hotel ensures that this iconic structure remains a part of Glasgow’s urban landscape. While its original function as an insurance company office has changed, the building’s significance as a historical landmark is preserved, offering a new chapter in its storied history.

The Address Glasgow offers a seamless blend of historic charm and modern luxury. The interiors have been designed to reflect the building’s heritage, with high ceilings, original architectural details, and sophisticated furnishings. Contemporary touches, such as stylish lighting and modern art, create a welcoming and elegant atmosphere.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Address Glasgow.
